History:
In the shadowed aftermath of the Black Month, the cataclysm that shattered the Third Epoch, a new nation emerged from the ashes. During the agonizing era of darkness, when the world lay bereft of light, the most formidable masters of Abyssal Magic congregated in the forsaken Lands of Tarien. Their hope was to halt the creeping blight wrought by the Black Shards, an otherworldly affliction that threatened to consume all.
United by their arcane prowess, these sages forged an intricate barrier, a dark marvel designed to absorb the vile energies of the encroaching monsters. This shield siphoned the corrupted essence from their foes, turning the tide of battle. Yet, this ingenious construction bore a grim price—it ensnared not only the malevolent forces but also the very Abyssal Magic wielded by its creators.
Trapped within the confines of their own creation, the mages sought out the wisest being in creation, Raphael, the Ruler of Wisdom, imprisoned by the Fell God Raek, the Brother. They offered their plea for liberation in exchange for his guidance. Little did they know, Raphael had long since freed himself from his prison. However, moved by their desperation, the Fell God chose to aid them. He unveiled a fatal flaw within the barrier—a singularity of Fell Magic that would unleash devastation upon the land. With grim resolve, Raphael imparted the knowledge needed to contain the burgeoning catastrophe.
Desperately, the congregation scrambled to follow Raphael’s counsel, but their efforts were in vain. The Black Month’s end coincided with the barrier’s unraveling, and chaos erupted as it ran amok, corrupting and consuming everything it touched with living shadows. Though they managed to bind and seal the barrier, their victory was fleeting.
Emerging from their confinement, these once-revered magi returned to a world forever changed. They found a realm that had turned against Abyssal Magic, blaming the disaster on its misuse and condemning the Lands of Tarien’s ruin as the ultimate testament to its danger.
Forsaken and vilified, the survivors of this illustrious circle fled the ruined lands, journeying north to a barren wasteland. There, they established a council to oversee the perilous singularity they had created. Over time, this council evolved into rulers of a fledgling nation, one of the last to embrace the true, forbidden art of Abyssal Magic.
Politics:
In the shadowed halls of the Aristocracy of Shadows, politics is a labyrinth of deceit and strategy. Here, Abyssal Magic rewards not just wisdom, but a cunning of the highest order. This has bred a society where intrigue and treachery are as common as the dark arts they practice. In a world that reviles them, the inhabitants of this realm have turned inward, valuing their own advancement above all else. Betrayal is a currency here, and one should always be wary of being merely a pawn in another’s scheme.
The Aristocracy is governed by a council composed of the progenitors of the singularity—a group entwined in a complex tapestry of familial connections, falsehoods, and covert agendas. Each family is locked in a relentless struggle for dominance, their relationships a web of shifting alliances and rivalries. Despite the incessant power plays, the concept of nobility is fluid. In this realm, one’s standing is not fixed by birth but earned through mastery of Abyssal Magic.
As a result, noble houses rise and fall with astonishing frequency. The game of shadows is ever in motion, with families maneuvering through deception and betrayal to secure their place in the shifting hierarchy of the Aristocracy. One’s position in this dark society is as transient as the shifting shadows themselves.
