Tormarus was a shrewd man and a skilled merchant who used the time of woe during the Second Plague as a way to grow in power. He built his empire with cunning and a grace that would make even Durnladin envious. While the man used the opportunity created by war, famine, and disaster he was not a cruel man. In fact many of his mercantile efforts were made to help people. He saw the destruction left in the wake of the second Plague and wished to bring stability. He was a philanthrope at heart, so what if he was also guided by his own greed.

Tormarus was cunning and an awful man to have as your enemy, ruthlessly destroying competitors through deals that would lead to their ruin. He was so skilled at his trickery that he drew the attention of Hrythen himself. He was willing to do anything to further his goals and help people, even make a deal with the devil. He was so prideful he truly thought he could outwit Hrythen in a deal if it pertained to economics and wealth. So Hrythen, already impressed by the man's cunning, decided to give him a chance to prove this.

When they met they got on like grease and fire, there was a chemistry between them that would make one think they had known each other for decades despite only having just met. A wager was made between them, if Hrythen got the better end of their deal he would claim Tormarus as his own and consume his soul eventually. If Tormarus got the better end then Hrythen would offer him all the riches he could imagine. In the end a deal was struck, and it only need play out to see the end of the wager. It seemed Hrythen had won, yet as years went by it became more and more apparent that Tormarus had played the Devil himself.

Delighted by this turn of events Hrythen decided to extend their wager and raise Tormarus to godhood, allowing the two to compete for longer than a mortal lifespan would allow. It is said their bet is still going to this day, with Tormarus' Divine Spark on the line.

Tormarus is one of the gods that deals with mortals the most, as he was ascended by the lord of the hells himself he has been given the special privilege of traversing the lands. He often appears as a tired, but shrewd merchant. He sponsors merchants, collectors, and any who use cunning to please their greed filled hearts. He is seen as one of the gods closest to mortals as Commerce is a part of life, and so his depictions tend to be more human than some of the other gods.
