Zerin was once a friend of Whinharim during the Third Era, roaming the lands to guide others through the rampant storms of shadows that seemed to cover the lands in a blanket of darkness. He has always been blessed with a strange sense of direction and his navigations skills where powerful enough to draw the attention of the Traveler, leading to their lifelong friendship.

When the Black Month fell upon the world as well as the Mists Zerin steeled himself as he continued his work. Guiding as many survivors through these disasters as he could using his oddly strong sense of direction. Yet even through his efforts only a handful of people were saved and, even worse, the souls of the fallen couldn't move on. The Mists had done more than just affect the mortal world, after all they were eldritch in nature. They seemed to fill the spirit world even easier, blanketing the entire world of spirits and hiding the way to the Spirit Sea. All the souls of the fallen became lost in the mists, roaming and mutating, never able to move on. This threatened to destroy the balance of Death itself.

Whinharim had long thought the cycle of Death was missing a part. He guided souls from the spirit sea to Senros himself, and Senros his dear friend judged them before sending them to the afterlife, yet no one acted as their Guide. So Whinharim offered Zerin a deal, a way to help him Ascend so he may use his abilities as a Guide to become the third part of the Cycle of Death, to Guide souls away from the Mists and into the Spirit Sea, and so a God was born.

Zerin always reached out his hands to help the Downtrodden, roaming storms of Shadow, or entering the darkest corners of the world to do so. Now he finds he can help these people even easier.
